Valentine’s Day is around the corner and with it the inevitable question: What to get for VD? Most couples plan in advance to be able spend some time together in the form of a date. Others, specially the ones in long distance relationships, have to rely on a little bit more planning and creativity if they want to share that day with their loved ones across the distance. Only one day left for V Day and people is still asking me for advice and ideas.
With that in mind, I asked some friends (guys) about what they would do on Valentine’s Day if they couldn’t be with their S/O because of distance. Here are some of the things they told me:
- Text messages/calls: Send text messages and call your S/O to make them feel special. Simple but effective for couples who just started their journey together or the ones that have something else scheduled for later on.
- Video calls/dates: Great for couples who like to see each other on a regular basis. Share your day (or part of it) in a video call with your S/O. You can watch a movie together, share a dinner or even play games with each other.
- Snail Mail: By asking friends I found out that a lot of them would chose to send some kind of gift or care package by mail. Others would buy flowers online and have them delivered to their S/O home or office.
- Be creative: Don’t be afraid to let your inner artist shine by composing a song, painting or drawing something special. For those who like the extreme, my friend Flynn suggested a scavenger hunt… going from place to place, each one giving the name of the next place to visit while texting and ending the day with a video call and falling asleep together. Another friend suggested flying their S/O to where they are.
Whatever you decide to do in that special day, remember is not about how much you spend but the memories you create together. Is about details that will help you build beautiful things that will last forever.
